DRESSING UP
Valka
P3B
△ Leonardo da Vinci –
This portrait of me is named Girl with a Toy. I used my toy necklace to match the big scarves that I borrowed from my mom and my grandma. Along with these props, my good friend, a toy beaver, is also with me in this photograph. We turned out to be a mirror image with the original artwork.
I found the same color for my background. I also tried my best to find the closest color scheme for my top. The light direction is reversed. Thereby, so is my pose and my beaver’s. To me, this is as fun as playing house.
By the way, mom says that ermine used to be the pet of only noble or rich families. And only aristocrats and wealthy people were able to have their own portraits at the time. So, I guess this lady must think that I am very rich! Hahahaha.

I wanted to create this work, because I like doing it with my cute little kitty cat. How lovely is this picture! Mom took the photo, my dad and my brother helped to hold the black coat as background, and my cat and I were making the pose.
This was not just doing my homework, it was a wonderful time my family and I spent together!
Reading Boy (《
Joseph
P3C
△ Jean-Baptiste Greuze –
“I don’t like to act as a woman or a girl, becuase I am none of them. I was very exctied when I found this art work named Reading Boyfrom a French artist. Then I began to dress up like the reading boy. I preteded to fall asleep and I felt like I was really sleeping, the world became dark and quiet…”

△ Kees van Dongen – The Corn Poppy, 1919
The creating process was very fun. It needs us to find props and put makeup on. After getting dressed up, I looked into the mirror:
I look very strange!
Dressing up is a genre of art, it’s like having painted a picture.

The result of the combination of famous painting and photograph is excitedly expected. It’s humorous and entertaining. It makes me extremely cute.
Amanda
P3H
△ Frida Kahlo –
When Ms. Emily gave me the task of dressing up, I was so happy and excited because I could be a different person. I started to look for famous paintings that I liked. I found many of them and combined them with the materials at home. Finally, I chose this self-portrait of Frida Kahlo.”
Elsa

△ Auguste Renoir – The Dancer, 1874
Originally I created this work only because it’s homework, but in the process of creating, I found this painting very beautiful. Then I began to fall in love with it.
David
P3C
△ Paul Cezanne – Boy in a Red Waistcoat, 1964
To get dressed up as the boy in Paul Cezanne’s Boy in a Red Waistcoat, I found the process of looking for similar clothes and props as substitues was just too much fun!
Since I don’t have a red waistcoat, I used a red scarf instead. It was so interesting to imitate the boy. For several times, I couldn’t help but laughed. Then I had to go back.
I think art making takes lots of time and energy. Those masters were extraordinary. Therefore, no matter what we do, to do it well, we need interest and passion.
Odette
P3E
△ Raphael – La Donna Velata, c. 1516
The Veiled Woman (La Donna Velata) is an oil painting created by Italian artist Raphael Sanzio in the 16th century.
I studied this painting and also the dressing up process in the past three weeks.
To complete this work, I used the veil, the toy necklace, and the hairpin etc. from home.
I think dressing up is very fun.
John
P3D
△ Jan van Eyck –
The tall nose bridge, and the calm and sagacious look in the eyes, give the audience the feeling of authority. The perspective effect from the multilayer of the red headscarf makes the painting lifelike. The expression that imitates the one from this famous work has challenged me, whereas the factors such as different historical backgrounds, age difference and different experience brought pleasure to this process of dressing up.”
Kevin
P3A
△ Raphael Sanzio – Self-Portrait, 1506
I dressed up myself as Raphael in his Self-Portrait. This look gives one a youth feeling of melancholy, quiet and peace.
Zack
P3B
△ Vincent van Gogh – Self-Portrait, 1887
I hand-painted my backdrop. While I was painting it, I felt it was a bit difficult for me. But after it was done, I thought it looked pretty good.

△ René Magritte – Man in a Blower Hat, 1964
Every schoolboy hopes to get dressed up like an adult with suit.
The blue paper crane represents dream and hope.
The orange tie shines.
Truck
P3B
I think Dressing Up is very interesting, but it is also very challanging.
To produce a good work, I think, is to testify one’s imagination and creativity, as well as hands-on ability.

△ Orest Kiprensky – The Young Gardener, 1817
I think it is very meaningful to imitate this painting, because I’ve gained joy from the process of dressing up and also have deeper understanding of this painting now.
Lillian
P3A
△ Sir John Everett Millais – Red Riding Hood, 1864
“I chose this work because my favourite story is The Little Red Riding Hood. I think she’s wondering, why Grandma has bigger ears, mouth and eyes than ever. I don’t think the wolf is looking at the basket, it’s looking at the girl. The wolf wants to eat her!
I used Grandpa’s red blanket, bamboo basket and green vegetables to be my props.
After I got dressed up, it reminds me of when I was a kid, I often got dressed up as a little red riding hood and my Grandpa got dressed up as the wolf. But my Grandpa didn’t follow the rules of the story. His performance made the story more funny.”
